Resigned as GS, expulsion holds no meaning: Sharma
Speaking at the closing session of the party’s Special General Convention, Sharma dismissed the expulsion as meaningless.
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader and General Secretary Bishwprakash Sharma, recently expelled by the party’s establishment faction for five years, has clarified that he had already resigned from his position prior to the disciplinary action.
Speaking at the closing session of the party’s Special General Convention, Sharma dismissed the expulsion as meaningless.
“I heard that the central committee had taken disciplinary action against me. For the first time in my life, I faced something called ‘discipline’,” Sharma said. “I was just chatting with friends when one of them called to say I was being disciplined. I told them I had already resigned from the General Secretary post that morning.”
He added, “Earlier today, I had stepped down, allowing two young leaders of the party, Pradeep Paudel and Gururaj Ghimire, to file their nominations for the post of General Secretary.”
The Special General Convention formally nullified the establishment faction’s disciplinary decision, signaling a smooth leadership transition to the party’s new generation and reinforcing the legitimacy of the Special Convention.
