Rabi to visit India for high-level talks
According to party-linked sources, the invitation reflects India’s continued practice of engaging with senior leaders of major political forces in Nepal.
KATHMANDU: The President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, is set to visit India on May 18 for a two-day official trip, according to sources.
He is reportedly travelling at the invitation of India’s Ministry of External Affairs. During the visit, Lamichhane is expected to hold high-level meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.
In addition to government-level engagements, he is also expected to meet senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
According to party-linked sources, the invitation reflects India’s continued practice of engaging with senior leaders of major political forces in Nepal.
Previous leaders, including former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, have also undertaken similar official visits to India.
A BJP-affiliated source said Lamichhane was invited due to his position as the head of a major political force in Nepal and his party’s growing parliamentary presence.
The visit comes at a sensitive time in Nepal–India relations, which have seen recent diplomatic strain. Issues such as border disputes, including Lipulekh, have contributed to tensions, while some scheduled high-level visits have been postponed.
