KATHMANDU: The government has increased public transport fares, citing fluctuations in fuel prices and other economic indicators as the basis for the revision.
Under the new rates, passenger transport fares have risen by 16.71%.
Similarly, freight charges have also been adjusted, with a 21.68% increase for vehicles operating on hilly routes and a 15.75% rise for those running in the Terai region.
Officials said the primary driver behind the fare hike is the change in fuel prices, which has significantly impacted operating costs.
With the new decision in effect, commuters and businesses will now have to pay higher charges for both travel and the transportation of goods.
