KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal has once again increased public transport fares, citing a rise in fuel prices.

Issuing a notice on Wednesday, the Department of Transport Management confirmed that fares for both passenger and freight vehicles have been adjusted upward by 5 percent.

The decision was made following in-principle approval from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport on April 25.

According to the department, the fare hike has been driven primarily by an increase in diesel prices. However, the revised rates will not apply to electric vehicles.

This marks the second fare revision in recent weeks, with the previous adjustment implemented on April 8.
