KATHMANDU: Paris Saint-Germain F.C. booked their place in the UEFA Champions League final after holding FC Bayern Munich to a 1-1 draw in the second leg of the semifinal, sealing a thrilling 6-5 aggregate victory.
Having secured a narrow 5-4 advantage in the first leg, PSG approached the return fixture with discipline and composure.
The French champions made a dream start when Ousmane Dembélé struck in just the third minute, finishing brilliantly from a precise assist by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The early setback forced Bayern onto the attack, with Luis Díaz, Michael Olise and Jamal Musiala creating several dangerous opportunities.
However, PSG’s defense stood firm, while Bayern defender Jonathan Tah missed a crucial headed chance in first-half stoppage time.
PSG maintained their defensive resilience in the second half, although Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer produced a series of outstanding saves to keep his side alive in the contest.
Bayern eventually found an equaliser in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Harry Kane converted from Alphonso Davies’s delivery.
But the German giants could not find another goal, allowing PSG to progress to the final.
PSG will now face Arsenal F.C. in the Champions League final as they move one step closer to defending their European crown.
Dembélé’s strike also entered the record books as the third-fastest goal in Champions League semifinal history, while Kvaratskhelia became the first player to register a goal or assist in seven consecutive knockout matches in the competition.
