KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel is set to depart for Japan on Sunday for an official visit, marking the 70th anniversary of Nepal-Japan diplomatic relations.

Leading the Nepali delegation, President Paudel will travel aboard a Nepal Airlines flight on Sunday night.

The delegation will include First Lady Savita Paudel and senior government officials, according to Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai.

During his visit, President Poudel is scheduled to meet Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on Feb 3.

He will also hold courtesy meetings with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Foreign Minister Horiie Iwao.

On Feb 2, the President will attend a special reception organized by the Japanese government to commemorate seven decades of diplomatic relations.

He will also engage with the Japanese business community and participate in a reception hosted by the Nepali Embassy in his honor.

President Poudel is expected to return to Nepal on Feb 4.
