Prasai remanded to police custody for three days
Prasai was taken into custody by Parsa Police on Monday night after being served an arrest warrant.
KATHMANDU: The Parsa District Court on Tuesday granted police permission to keep medical entrepreneur and coordinator of the “Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture and Citizen Protection Campaign Nepal,” Durga Prasai, in custody for three days for investigation under charges related to the Electronic Transactions Act and offenses against the State.
Prasai was taken into custody by Parsa Police on Monday night after being served an arrest warrant.
According to Parsa Police spokesperson Hari Bahadur Basnet, Prasai was detained over statements allegedly made through various media outlets and social media platforms that police claim violated public morality and decency, spread hatred or hostility against individuals, and disrupted harmonious relations among different castes and communities.
Police further alleged that Prasai made “unsubstantiated and unverified” remarks regarding the activities of the Government of Nepal, which authorities say promoted hatred, contempt, or disrespect toward the state through “undignified and unhealthy critical expressions.”
“He was taken into custody from Siddhartha Diyalo Hotel in Birgunj on Monday night. The Parsa District Court has granted a three-day remand for further investigation under the Electronic Transactions Act and offenses against the State,” spokesperson Basnet said.
