KATHMANDU: Medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai has been released after an order from the Parsa District Court on Tuesday.

According to the court’s directive, Prasai was freed on general date, Parsa District Police Office DSP Hari Basnet confirmed.

Police had filed cases against him on charges related to cybercrime and offenses against the state.

Prasai was arrested on May 18 from Diyalo Hotel in Birgunj by police during an operation linked to an ongoing investigation.

Police had filed charges against him under the Electronic Transactions Act and on allegations related to offenses against the state.

Authorities accused him of making derogatory public remarks targeting state institutions, including the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Prime Minister Balen Shah, and Rastriya Swatantra Party President Ravi Lamichhane.

In a recent YouTube interview, Prasai had claimed that Prime Minister Balen Shah, Ravi Lamichhane, former Nepal Electricity Authority Executive Director Kulman Ghising, and Dharan Mayor Harka Sampang were being promoted by the same group.

He had also stated that he would place Balen Shah’s photograph in his home if the latter stood in favor of restoring Nepal as a Hindu state and reviving the monarchy.
