KATHMANDU: Chair of the CPN (Maoist Center), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has extended congratulations to the newly elected executive committee of the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), expressing the government’s commitment to actively support the development of mountain tourism.

Speaking at a program organized at his private residence in Khumaltar today, Prachanda congratulated the panel led by Phurwa Gelje Sherpa, which secured a sweeping victory in the NMA elections by defeating panels backed by the ruling coalition’s major parties, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML.

With the support of the Maoist Center, the Sherpa-led panel won all but one vice president and one member position.

I am confident this new executive committee will move NMA forward as a more dynamic and effective institution,” he remarked, assuring full support from himself and his party.

Recalling his long-standing connection with the association, Prachanda highlighted the government’s seriousness about developing the tourism sector as a whole.

He further shared that the long-delayed tourism bill has now reached its final stage, pledging to play an active role in ensuring its passage through parliament.
