Political retaliation: Case filed against Madhav Nepal — Rajendra Pandey
Speaking to journalists at the Federal Parliament premises, Pandey expressed concern over the rising legal actions targeting political leaders.
KATHMANDU: Senior Vice-Chair of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Rajendra Prasad Pandey, has warned that a growing number of parliamentarians may be forced to take leave from the legislature due to the increasing number of corruption cases linked to policy decisions.
Speaking to journalists at the Federal Parliament premises, Pandey expressed concern over the rising legal actions targeting political leaders.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) recently filed a corruption case against the party chairman and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal in connection with the Patanjali land deal.
Responding to questions about the case, Pandey defended Chair Nepal, asserting that he had not committed any crime related to corruption in the land purchase and sale.
He noted that the upcoming expiration of the mandates of all constitutional bodies, including the ACC, on the 28th of this month has accelerated efforts to complete pending work within the remaining timeframe.
Pandey alleged that the case against Madhav Kumar Nepal was politically motivated, intended as an act of retribution.
He further warned that once such cases are filed, it would be impossible to conclude them swiftly.
He cited the possibility that past decisions made by ministerial councils could also become subject to corruption allegations.
Pandey cautioned that, under the current climate, no prime minister or ministerial council would be able to make significant or important decisions going forward.
