Police reinstated at Koteshwor post after damage during protests
A special ceremony was held on Thursday to welcome back the officers.
KATHMANDU: Following the destruction caused during the recent protests, the police at Koteshwor precinct have been reinstated after the completion of reconstruction work.
A special ceremony was held on Thursday to welcome back the officers.
During the protests on Bhadra 24, hundreds of police offices across the country suffered damage. The restoration of the Koteshwor precinct has been carried out with the support of the local community.
At the ceremony, Kathmandu Valley Police Chief Additional Inspector General (AIG) Dan Bahadur Karki urged citizens to cooperate with the police in their duties.
He emphasized the importance of police-community collaboration for effective law enforcement.
Highlighting the 70-year history of the Nepal Police, AIG Karki said the force has overcome numerous challenges and remained steadfast. “Nepal Police has stood firm through political and cultural upheavals,” he said.
He further noted, “We have rebuilt the building, but if we fail to foster mutual understanding, merely bringing police back here will not suffice. Both uniformed and non-uniformed personnel play vital roles, and the community must support them. Let this occasion inspire all to work together for the common good.”
AIG Karki also described the police as companions in both the joys and sorrows of citizens, acknowledging that at times the public may express anger toward law enforcement.
Local residents welcomed the reinstated officers with garlands and paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the protests.
