Govt committed to responsible journalism, says Minister Timilsina
According to him, efforts are also underway to address the long-standing demands of working journalists through continued dialogue with stakeholders.
KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dr. Bikram Timilsina has said that the government is committed to making journalism more responsible, ethical, and dignified.
Responding to questions raised by lawmakers during Wednesday’s discussion on budget allocations under his ministry in the House of Representatives Nepal, Minister Timilsina emphasized that strengthening the media sector remains a key priority of the government.
He said the government is taking effective steps to ensure the implementation of minimum wage standards for journalists.
According to him, efforts are also underway to address the long-standing demands of working journalists through continued dialogue with stakeholders.
The minister also informed lawmakers that the government has allocated Rs 5 million in the upcoming fiscal year to further improve and strengthen the journalism sector, aiming to promote professionalism and sustainability in media.
Timilsina reiterated that the government’s approach is focused on improving working conditions for journalists while ensuring a more accountable and responsible media environment.
