KATHMANDU: Police opened fire in Damak, the hometown of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, after a Gen Z protest escalated on Sunday, eyewitnesses reported.
One person was injured, and the town remained tense following the demonstration.
The protest started at 11 a.m. from Akashe Bridge and marched to the Damak Municipality office.
Police used batons to control protesters during the rally.
Jhapa Police spokesperson Khagendra Bahadur Khadka said tensions rose near the municipality office as protesters attempted to vandalize the premises.
He added that authorities were still verifying details about the firing.
Similar Gen Z demonstrations were reported in Birtamod and Damak, with protesters chanting slogans against Prime Minister Oli in his hometown.
