KATHMANDU: Kathmandu police opened fire during an operation to apprehend a major gang responsible for a series of robberies across the Valley.

The incident occurred last night in Mulpani, where a special police team from the Kathmandu District Police Office confronted the gang.

Police fired two rounds in self-defense.

The gang’s leader was injured in the gunfire and, although his identity has been kept confidential, he was immediately admitted to the Trauma Center at Bir Hospital for treatment.

Police said the gang attacked the officers while being surrounded, forcing them to use firearms to regain control of the situation.

During the operation, police successfully arrested 10 members of the gang.

Authorities claim the suspects are professional criminals who have long been involved in robberies and spreading terror across Kathmandu.

Two police officers were also slightly injured during the scuffle but are in stable condition and receiving treatment.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the group has been systematically robbing areas including Gaushala, Swayambhu, Bouddha, and various parts of Bhaktapur.

Police had been monitoring the gang closely for an extended period due to their threat to public safety.

Officials said further investigations are underway regarding the arrested suspects and the items recovered from them, with detailed information expected to be released soon.
