Parliamentary Hearing Committee approves Sharma’s name for CJ

KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has unanimously approved the name of Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma, nominee for the position of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal.

The decision was taken during the committee meeting held on Tuesday under the provisions of Rule 26 (5) of the Federal Parliament Joint Meeting and Joint Committee (Operation) Regulations, 2080.

Committee Chair Bodh Narayan Shrestha informed that Sharma’s nomination was endorsed unanimously.

During the hearing process, the committee also addressed complaints filed against the proposed Chief Justice.

According to the chairperson, the complaints will be systematically documented, classified, and forwarded to the concerned authorities for further review and necessary study.

In particular, the committee has decided to return the reviewed complaints to the Constitutional Council of Nepal for archival purposes.

Dr. Sharma had been recommended for the post by the Constitutional Council on Baisakh 24.

With the committee’s approval, his appointment will now proceed to the President for final confirmation, in accordance with constitutional provisions.

The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has stated that it aims to further refine and improve future hearing procedures to make the process more effective and transparent.
