KATHMANDU: Speaker DP Aryal proceeded with parliamentary business on Thursday amid loud protests from opposition parties,  following his meeting with Prime Minister Balen Shah.

Despite the disruption, the Speaker allowed Law Minister Sobita Gautam to table a motion for consideration of the First Amendment to the House of Representatives Election Bill.

Opposition lawmakers continued chanting slogans inside the chamber as proceedings moved forward.

Opposition parties have insisted that parliamentary sessions cannot continue unless Prime Minister Shah appears in the House and responds to their concerns.

The standoff has further intensified tensions in the legislature, with repeated disruptions halting normal proceedings.
