KATHMANDU: Captain of Rajasthan Royals, Riyan Parag, has been fined 25% of his match fee and handed one demerit point for a disciplinary breach during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season.

The incident occurred during Tuesday’s match against Punjab Kings in New Chandigarh, where Parag was found using a vape inside the dressing room.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said Parag had violated Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to behaviour that brings the game into disrepute.

Rajasthan secured a four-wicket victory in the match, successfully chasing a target of 222 runs with four balls remaining. Parag admitted the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Amit Sharma.

The BCCI added it is considering stricter measures against teams, officials and players found breaching regulations, in an effort to safeguard the integrity of the league.

The development follows a separate incident involving Rajasthan Royals’ team manager Romi Bhinder, who was fined earlier this month. Bhinder was penalised INR 100,000 after being found using a mobile phone in the dugout during a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati on 10 April.

He later described the breach as inadvertent, issued an unconditional apology, and was formally warned to adhere strictly to league regulations in future.
