KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress National Assembly member Kamala Panta has cautioned the government against treating electoral victory as the sole source of political legitimacy, warning against arrogance based on past electoral mandates.

Speaking in Thursday’s National Assembly meeting, Panta said that winning votes once should not be used to justify political dominance or disregard for democratic balance. She stressed that governance in a country like Nepal must be built on cooperation, unity, and consensus rather than confrontation.

Commenting on the Prime Minister’s recent remarks on border-related issues, she said the Prime Minister himself should clarify his position on the matter. She also urged the ruling party and political stakeholders to prioritize collaboration and national unity.

“There is a distinct responsibility of the National Assembly, and we are ready to fulfill it. But we cannot ignore our concerns about the Prime Minister,” she said. “Politics does not end with electoral victory. It is easy to speak, but difficult to deliver. No one should show arrogance based on a single mandate. Governance becomes difficult that way. Nepal must move forward on the basis of cooperation, unity, and consensus.”

Panta further stated that opposition parties are ready to support positive government initiatives and urged the government not to act out of fear, but in confidence and openness.
