One dies after car plunges into Phewa Lake

KATHMANDU: A 24-year-old man lost his life after a car plunged into Phewa Lake in the early hours of Thursday morning in Pokhara.

The accident occurred at around 2:10 am near Gaira Chautara in Ward No. 6 of Pokhara Metropolitan City.

The car (registration number BAE 1582) reportedly lost control and fell into the lake.

The deceased has been identified as Adit Gurung, originally from Phedikhola Rural Municipality-5, Syangja and currently residing in Pokhara-7, Masbar.

According to Superintendent Basanta Bahadur Singh of the Armed Police Force Nepal Kalika Battalion, the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the fatal accident.

Following the report of the incident, a 21-member rescue team including divers from the Kalika Battalion was immediately deployed under the command of Superintendent Singh.

The divers retrieved the driver from the lake in an unconscious state and rushed him to Gandaki Medical College for treatment, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Police later recovered the vehicle from the lake with the help of a crane and handed it over to the Ward Police Office, Baidam, for further investigation.
