Oli calls Madan Bhandari “Visionary of an Era” on memorial day
Oli said the passage of time has only deepened the emotional impact of the loss.
KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has described late party leader Madan Bhandari as a “visionary of an era,” marking the 33rd Madan-Ashrit Memorial Day.
In a message shared on social media, Oli said Bhandari’s political thought and the philosophy of People’s Multiparty Democracy continue to guide the party’s ideological direction and its commitment to staying aligned with public interests.
Remembering the tragic 1993 Dasdhunga incident, in which Bhandari and then-general secretary Jeevraj Ashrit lost their lives, Oli said the passage of time has only deepened the emotional impact of the loss.
“Madan Bhandari was my leader, colleague, and comrade,” Oli wrote, adding that Ashrit was a “skilled organiser” who played a key role in strengthening the party structure.
He further said that Bhandari’s doctrine of People’s Multiparty Democracy provided a new ideological framework for Nepal’s communist movement, helping translate political change into a people-centred agenda.
Oli also linked the legacy of Bhandari’s ideas with the party’s current national vision of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali,” saying it continues to guide development efforts and governance priorities.
