KATHMANDU: Nepal national cricket team’s consultant coach Nick Pothas has openly expressed dissatisfaction with the management practices of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) ahead of Nepal’s league-stage match against Scotland national cricket team.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Pothas said that structural and managerial stability around the team is essential if Nepal are to progress as a competitive cricketing nation.

The South African coach is currently working with Nepal for the third time, having previously been part of the team during the Scotland tour and the ICC World Cup Qualifier in Oman.

Reflecting on his experiences with the national side, Pothas pointed out a lack of consistency in team management. “There needs to be proper discussion with Paras, the CAN secretary, about how the team is built. I have worked with Nepal across three different tournaments, and each time the team has had different managers. If we truly want to improve Nepali cricket, it is clear that the environment and support structure around the team must also improve,” Pothas said.

He further stressed that strong internal pressure and accountability are crucial for performance. “Teams perform at their best when there is healthy pressure to do well. I’m not sure whether that culture exists in Nepal at the moment, but it is absolutely necessary for cricket to improve.”

Pothas also underlined the importance of giving authority and value to support staff entering the dressing room. “When people are brought into the dressing room from outside, they must have importance within the team environment. This is how big organizations function. In every top team I have worked with, discussions about work and performance are taken seriously because that is the most important part.”

The consultant coach added that the match against Scotland is vital for Nepal to end their World Cup journey on a positive note.

He also emphasized that a good result against Scotland would help boost morale ahead of the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series scheduled after the World Cup.
