NEPSE drops by 25.81 points despite mixed sector performance

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index witnessed a double-digit decline on Wednesday, falling by 25.81 points to close at 2,744.45.
According to NEPSE, a total of 12.13 million shares of 351 companies were traded through 104,005 transactions, generating a turnover of Rs 4.98 billion.
Despite the overall market decline, a few sectors posted modest gains.
The development bank index edged up by 0.14 percent, mutual funds rose by 0.01 percent, and the trading sector gained 1.09 percent.
However, most sectors ended in the red. The banking index declined by 0.76 percent, finance by 0.64 percent, hotels and tourism by 1.64 percent, hydropower by 1.45 percent, and investment by 0.66 percent.
Similarly, life insurance fell by 0.84 percent, while manufacturing and processing recorded the steepest drop of 2.24 percent.
Other sectors also saw losses, with microfinance down by 0.54 percent, non-life insurance by 1.11 percent, and the “others” group slipping by 0.92 percent.
The market downturn reflects broad-based selling pressure across key sectors, despite isolated gains in select indices.
