KATHMANDU: Nepal will take first strike in their T20 World Cup clash against West Indies after West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss and opted to field on Sunday at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

Nepal captain Rohit Paudel, who missed Saturday’s training due to fever, is set to play in the match.

The team has replaced spinner Lalit Rajbanshi with medium-pacer and all-rounder Sompal Kami, marking his T20 World Cup debut. Kami is competing in his third World Cup overall.

Earlier in September, Nepal made history by defeating West Indies 2-1 in a T20 international series in Sharjah, UAE.

Only Akiel Hussein and Jason Holder from that series are part of the current West Indies squad, which features several new players.

Nepal sits at the bottom of Group C after narrow defeats to England (by 4 runs) and Italy (by 10 wickets), while West Indies top the group with wins over Scotland (by 35 runs) and England (by 30 runs).

A victory against Nepal will secure West Indies a spot in the Super 8 stage, while Nepal’s progression remains a mathematical possibility.
