The 22-member squad, led by captain Anjila Subba, was bid farewell today by ANFA General Secretary Kiran Rai.
KATHMANDU: The Nepali national women’s football team has been officially sent off to participate in the first FIFA-tier tri-nation international tournament in Indonesia.
The 22-member squad, led by captain Anjila Subba, was bid farewell today by ANFA General Secretary Kiran Rai.
The tournament, scheduled to run from Mangsir 10 to 16, will see Nepal competing against the national teams of Indonesia and Chinese Taipei.
Due to injuries, key players Sabitra Bhandari (Samba) and Sabita Rana Magar will not be part of the squad.
General Secretary Rai highlighted the progress of women’s football in Nepal, saying, “We have strengthened club-based structures, and as a result, we now have 10 active teams. Recent international matches indicate that we can achieve strong results on the global stage.”
Head coach Naveen Neupane expressed that while Samba’s absence due to injury is unfortunate, the tournament provides an opportunity for other players to showcase their talent against strong opponents.
Captain Anjila Subba added that such competitions are vital for the team’s growth and development.
