Nepal to scrap ‘free visa, free ticket’ in foreign employment: Minister
Minister Bhandari also promised to dismantle all syndicates operating in the foreign employment sector within a month.
KATHMANDU: Labour, Employment, and Social Security Minister Rajendra Singh Bhandari has called for the abolition of the “free visa, free ticket” system to make foreign employment more worker-friendly.
Speaking at a program at Singha Durbar on Tuesday, Minister Bhandari also promised to dismantle all syndicates operating in the foreign employment sector within a month.
He said all procedures that trap workers will be eliminated and necessary policy reforms will be introduced.
While the “free visa, free ticket” scheme may appear beneficial at first glance, the minister noted that it has fueled revenue leakage, tax evasion, and organized crime.
Minister Bhandari further informed that a committee has already been formed to amend the foreign employment procedures.
The committee is actively consulting stakeholders to draft the necessary revisions.
