KATHMANDU: Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has stated that the government has placed the investigation into the case of the murder of Nirmala Panta under high priority, with authorities continuing what he described as a “deep and sensitive” inquiry.

Speaking during Thursday’s House of Representatives session while responding to lawmakers’ queries on the Ministry of Home Affairs’ budget, the Home Minister emphasized that the ministry is treating the case with utmost seriousness. He added that he is personally monitoring the progress of the investigation.

Gurung noted that certain aspects of the investigation must remain confidential due to procedural requirements, stressing that premature disclosure of details could affect the outcome. He said it would be more appropriate to wait until the investigation reaches a conclusion before making further public statements.

Addressing past controversies surrounding the case, the Home Minister expressed regret over its politicization, stating that it is deeply unfortunate for a sensitive matter involving the brutal killing of a young girl to become a subject of political debate.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Gurung said that efforts are underway to identify those responsible and bring them to justice through a “thorough and scientific investigation.” He also urged all stakeholders to cooperate so that the case can be brought to a logical conclusion.
