Nepal ranked 7th among world’s top solo adventure travel destinations for 2025
The ranking highlights Nepal’s growing appeal among solo travelers seeking thrilling, soulful, and budget-friendly journeys.
KATHMANDU: Nepal has secured the 7th position in the list of top solo adventure travel destinations for 2025, as published by UK-based adventure travel company Much Better Adventures.
The ranking highlights Nepal’s growing appeal among solo travelers seeking thrilling, soulful, and budget-friendly journeys.
The recognition comes amid ongoing efforts by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) to showcase the country’s rich blend of adventure, natural beauty, and cultural diversity to a global audience.
NTB’s focus on responsible tourism, improved accessibility, use of local guides, and community-based tourism initiatives has made Nepal a safer and more reliable destination for solo adventurers.
Much Better Adventures praised Nepal for its stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, affordability, and wide range of adventure activities.
Iconic experiences like the Everest Base Camp trek, Annapurna Circuit, and jungle safaris in Chitwan National Park were noted as key attractions drawing independent travelers seeking both adrenaline and inner peace.
To enhance the solo travel experience, the NTB is prioritizing access to accurate destination information, safe travel practices through certified local guides, and a balanced integration of cultural, natural, and adventure-based experiences.
The Board’s responsible tourism policy also emphasizes community engagement and conservation in Himalayan regions, national parks, and heritage sites.
Nepal’s affordability was another major factor in its high ranking. The report highlighted the country’s low-cost accommodation, value-for-money travel packages, and rich cultural and natural experiences. “Nepal offers affordable stays, accessible adventures, and an abundance of soulful experiences,” the report states.
Shayma Bruce, co-founder of Much Better Adventures, said the list was compiled based on expert insights and traveler feedback, factoring in safety, sustainability, accessibility, and popularity. “Nepal offers solo travelers breathtaking nature, deep spirituality, and a heartfelt welcome—whether exploring Kathmandu’s bustling alleys or the serene Himalayan trails,” Bruce remarked.
Kristy Holmes, the company’s content manager who recently traveled solo in Nepal, reflected on her journey saying, “While trekking in the Annapurna Conservation Area and exploring Chitwan, I genuinely felt at home.”
Nepal ranks just behind Portugal and ahead of Montenegro on the list, which is topped by Italy, followed by Japan, Norway, Spain, Albania, and Portugal. Rounding out the top 10 are Jordan and Greece.
NTB CEO Deepak Raj Joshi expressed commitment to leveraging such international recognition for strategic promotion and continual destination enhancement. “This global acknowledgment presents an opportunity for Nepal to position itself as a premier adventure destination, and we are dedicated to building on this momentum,” Joshi said.
