KATHMANDU: Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has announced that Nepal’s Digital Nepal Framework has reached its final stage of implementation.

Speaking at the 25th anniversary and silver jubilee celebration of the Film Development Board in Kathmandu on Sunday, Minister Gurung said the policy will soon be approved by the Cabinet and put into action.

Highlighting the government’s plans to expand technology use across eight key sectors—including tourism, education, good governance, and disaster management—he emphasized that artificial intelligence (AI) will be the cornerstone of the nation’s ongoing digital transformation.

“To make AI more effective, a robust 5G network is essential,” he stated. “We will begin 5G trials in Kathmandu and Pokhara valleys by mid-Magh, which will enhance internet quality and facilitate AI applications.”

Minister Gurung further revealed that the government aims to achieve nationwide 5G coverage within the next year. Additionally, plans are underway to establish IT data centers and AI hubs in all seven provinces to bolster the country’s technological infrastructure.

Expressing concern over the rising cases of banking fraud, he assured that the government is moving forward with the necessary legal frameworks to curb such crimes.

“We are now at the stage of turning Digital Nepal into reality. The government is committed to accelerating this transformation with seriousness and precision,” Minister Gurung concluded.
