Wagle denies corruption allegations, vows to quit if proven guilty
He said accusations that he used his position at the Finance Ministry to favor certain businesses through tax decisions were untrue.
KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has strongly refuted allegations of corruption against him, declaring that he would resign from his post if even minor irregularities are proven.
Speaking in Thursday’s House of Representatives meeting, Wagle dismissed claims of irregularities worth Rs 2 billion as baseless and politically motivated.
He said accusations that he used his position at the Finance Ministry to favor certain businesses through tax decisions were untrue.
Defending his integrity, the minister said he had already responded to similar allegations in the Public Accounts Committee and reiterated his commitment to good governance.
He stressed that he could not betray the public mandate for clean governance within just two months of assuming office.
“If even a two-rupee wrongdoing by me is proven, I will resign as minister and even leave public life,” Wagle stated, challenging critics to maintain ethical standards.
He also questioned lawmakers who raised concerns about him, suggesting that their own past controversies could also come under scrutiny.
Wagle urged parliamentarians to base accusations on facts rather than personal attacks, saying such claims undermine the dignity of the House.
