National ID cards now downloadable online
Through the department’s official NID website, individuals can now access a digital version of their identity card that includes their photo and a QR code for online verification.
KATHMANDU: The National Identity Card and Civil Registration Department has launched a trial service allowing citizens to download their own National Identity cards from Thursday.
Through the department’s official NID website, individuals can now access a digital version of their identity card that includes their photo and a QR code for online verification.
The initiative is part of the government’s 100-point governance reform agenda, which aims to enable citizens to directly download their official identity cards with embedded verification features.
Citizens with a National ID number can download the card by submitting their name (in Nepali or English), date of birth, and citizenship issuance date.
The department stated that the QR code on the digital card can be scanned to verify personal details, replacing the earlier system where printed copies were manually checked for service delivery.
Public offices and institutions are now encouraged to verify identity through QR code scanning to ensure faster and more reliable service delivery.
