KATHMANDU: A total of 194 people received treatment and medical consultation during the “Nabil Free Burn Treatment Camp” held at the Provincial Hospital in Surkhet.

The three-day camp, organized jointly by the Provincial Hospital Surkhet and Nabil Bank with technical support from FACT Nepal, ran from Chaitra 27 and aimed to provide specialized care to burn victims in remote and underprivileged communities of Karnali Province.

According to the organizers, 39 patients underwent surgeries performed by senior specialist doctors, while one critically complex case was referred to Kirtipur Hospital in Kathmandu for advanced treatment.

Many patients attending the camp had been waiting for proper medical care and surgical intervention due to long-standing injuries and financial constraints.

The camp provided them with free treatment and renewed hope for recovery.

Among the beneficiaries, Sinja Rural Municipality-5 resident Smarjana Rokaya shared that she had been unable to move her hand due to burn injuries before arriving at the camp.

After surgery, she expressed relief, saying she can now straighten her hand and hopes to resume daily household and farming activities independently.

Nabil Bank CEO Manoj Kumar Gyawali stated that the initiative reflects the bank’s corporate social responsibility commitment to supporting vulnerable burn victims in remote regions. He also announced plans to extend similar camps to Lumbini and Madhesh Provinces in the future.

Specialist surgeons, including plastic surgeon Dr. Shankar Man Rai from Kirtipur Hospital under FACT Nepal, led the surgical team that treated burn patients during the camp.

Prior to the main event, 16 screening camps were conducted across various districts of Karnali Province, where health workers collected preliminary data and identified patients in need of specialized care.

Provincial Hospital Surkhet Director Dr. Ganesh Thapa appreciated the initiative, noting that many people in Karnali still lack access to adequate treatment and urged for continued support in the future.

Earlier, Nabil Bank had conducted a similar free burn treatment camp in Dhangadhi, Sudurpashchim Province, from Feb 24 to 26, where 65 patients received free medical care.

Nabil Bank continues to carry out various social initiatives under its corporate social responsibility programs, aiming to promote social entrepreneurship, development, and employment generation as part of its sustainable development commitment.
