KATHMANDU: Two separate parliamentary committee reports were presented in today’s National Assembly session.

Tulsakumari Dahal, Chairperson of the Legislative Management Committee, submitted the “Report on Legislative Provisions Regarding the Nepal Citizenship (Second Amendment) Bill, 2081, Received with Message from the House of Representatives.”

She informed the Assembly that out of the bill’s eight clauses, the report suggested amendments to six, refining and further improving the legislation.

A total of 36 members had submitted 35 amendment proposals on the bill.

Chairperson Dahal emphasized that the bill primarily aims to grant citizenship through the mother’s name for children without paternal identification, in accordance with constitutional provisions.

It also allows individuals who do not wish to include either parent’s name, surname, or address on the citizenship certificate to receive citizenship without such details.

Meanwhile, Mayaprasad Sharma, Chairperson of the Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee, presented the “Study Report on Policy Issues Related to National Parks, 2082.” Chairperson Sharma expressed confidence that the report would help reconcile differing approaches in conservation and development, promoting development alongside strengthened environmental protection.
