MP Rai accuses govt of undermining democracy & rule of law
Rai alleged that the government is running the country on the strength of its parliamentary majority rather than adhering to democratic procedures and the rule of law.
KATHMANDU: Rajendra Rai of the CPN-UML has accused the government of operating against the principles of law, democracy, and constitutional values.
Speaking to journalists at the Federal Parliament premises on Wednesday, Rai alleged that the government is running the country on the strength of its parliamentary majority rather than adhering to democratic procedures and the rule of law.
He claimed that the ruling side is displaying “majority arrogance” and attempting to push decisions through without respecting institutional norms.
According to him, such an approach is weakening democratic practices and undermining the spirit of the system.
Rai also criticized the role of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, stating that it did not emerge from traditional political or social service backgrounds, and questioned its political orientation and contribution.
He further argued that although leaders frequently speak in the name of democracy and republicanism, there has been a lack of concrete efforts toward national development.
Rai asserted that the country is being run on rhetoric rather than a clear development roadmap.
Reaffirming his party’s position, he said Nepal’s political and structural development was largely shaped by his party’s contributions and added that the country still needs the involvement of CPN-UML for further nation-building.
