KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has warned of a possible heatwave in parts of the Terai region of Sudurpaschim and Lumbini provinces, while temperatures are expected to rise in the Terai areas of Gandaki and Bagmati provinces.

According to its daily weather forecast, several hilly and mountainous districts across the country are likely to experience rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Moderate rainfall is expected in areas including Pokhara, Kathmandu Valley, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, Dharan, Jiri, and Taplejung.

In the Kathmandu Valley, there is a 40 percent chance of moderate rain with thunder and lightning during both afternoon and night.

The maximum temperature is expected to range between 29°C and 31°C, while the minimum may stay between 19°C and 21°C.

Meanwhile, temperatures in the Terai are expected to soar, with Dhangadhi likely to reach 38–40°C and Nepalgunj 39–41°C.

Regions including Birgunj, Bhairahawa, and Ghorahi are expected to experience intense heat and clear skies.

Authorities have urged people in heatwave-affected areas to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during daytime, stay hydrated, and follow necessary public health precautions.
