KATHMANDU: Prabha Dhakal has urged the government to take strong action against hospitals operating without meeting required standards, warning that such institutions are putting patients’ lives at risk.

Speaking during a session of the House of Representatives Nepal on Tuesday, she stressed that healthcare services in the country are deteriorating, forcing patients and their families to raise repeated complaints.

Dhakal also highlighted the urgent need for the government to ensure fair and timely remuneration for healthcare workers, saying that their dignity and contribution must be properly recognized.

She further called for effective implementation of the constitutional right to healthcare, questioning why the guarantee of basic health services has not yet been fully realized in practice.

“The health service is declining. Patients and their relatives are compelled to complain. Why has the constitutional right to health not been implemented in reality? The government must strictly act against hospitals and health institutions that do not meet standards and ensure dignified pay for health workers,” she said.

The MP also expressed dissatisfaction over the government’s efforts to improve the quality and reliability of the country’s healthcare system.
