MP Budha urges relief for disaster-hit Jajarkot areas
Sharing findings from his recent field inspection, he presented the painful story of 60-year-old Dhanasara Damai from Ward No. 11 of Junichande Rural Municipality.
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress MP Khadak Bahadur Budha has drawn the government’s attention to the worsening humanitarian situation in Jajarkot district, where recent natural disasters have severely disrupted daily life.
Speaking during the “zero hour” in Wednesday’s House of Representatives meeting, MP Budha highlighted extensive damage caused by heavy hailstorms, strong winds, and floods in Junichande Rural Municipality and Chhedagad Municipality.
Sharing findings from his recent field inspection, he presented the painful story of 60-year-old Dhanasara Damai from Ward No. 11 of Junichande Rural Municipality.
He said that after the 2015 earthquake destroyed her home, even the temporary shelter provided by the government was blown away by storms, leaving her family and other landless residents completely displaced.
According to him, the disasters have affected all 11 wards of Junichande and Wards 7 and 8 of Chhedagad, destroying winter crops and damaging vital infrastructure including rural roads, drinking water systems, irrigation channels, schools, and health posts.
MP Budha expressed frustration over the government’s lack of responsiveness to issues repeatedly raised in Parliament, questioning the effectiveness of the legislature itself. He said citizens have begun to view parliamentary concerns as ineffective due to the absence of government action.
He also criticized the state for failing to properly address protests and petitions from affected farmers and displaced families, who have been demanding relief from local authorities to Kathmandu’s Maitighar Mandala.
Calling for immediate intervention, Budha urged the government to launch urgent relief operations, ensure rehabilitation for displaced families, and begin reconstruction of damaged infrastructure in the affected areas.
