KATHMANDU: MetLife Nepal has launched Critical Illness Plus, a new rider designed to deliver immediate financial relief at one of life’s most vulnerable moments.

The rider strengthens individual life insurance policies by offering a lump‑sum payout upon diagnosis of major critical illnesses—addressing not only hospital bills, but the often‑ignored financial strain of recovery, income loss, and long‑term care.

Critical Illness Plus is designed to remain affordable. Rather than requiring a separate policy, the rider seamlessly integrates with eligible individual plans, offering coverage for 11 major critical illnesses, including cancer of specified severity, stroke, kidney failure, liver diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and major organ transplants.

The benefit is paid immediately upon confirmed diagnosis in line with policy terms, enabling policyholders to focus on their treatment and personal wellbeing without financial compromise.

The lump‑sum structure of Critical Illness Plus offers greater flexibility compared with reimbursement-only health plans. Customers can use the payout as they see fit, whether for advanced medical procedures, overseas treatment, household expenses or other obligations, making it a flexible financial safety net during prolonged and uncertain recovery periods.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Nirmal Kajee Shrestha, General Manager of MetLife Nepal, said, “A critical illness can change life anytime, medically and financially. With Critical Illness Plus, we are making meaningful protection accessible, affordable, and simple to add, ensuring our customers can focus on healing rather than financial stress.”

Alongside the individual rider launch, MetLife Nepal has also enhanced its Group Critical Illness Rider, expanding coverage options to 14 or 20 critical illnesses for employees and their families.

This revision significantly strengthens employee benefits while remaining cost‑effective for employers, reinforcing MetLife Nepal’s commitment to building comprehensive protection solutions that respond to emerging health risks and real customer needs.
