Man held in brutal murder of 12-year-old girl
He reportedly killed her by slitting her throat with a sickle.
KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a man in connection with the brutal murder of a 12-year-old girl residing in Letang-2, Morang.
On Friday, authorities took 58-year-old Padam Bahadur Adhikari, a local resident of Phadani, Letang-2, into custody.
According to the investigation, Adhikari allegedly lured the young girl approximately 4.5 kilometers away to the Belbari-Chisang Community Forest.
There, he reportedly killed her by slitting her throat with a sickle.
The girl had gone missing from her home on Bhadra 21, around 2 PM, prompting a search by local authorities.
On Kartik 7, around 11:30 AM, human remains were discovered in separate locations within the forest.
The body parts were badly decomposed, and identification was confirmed by the family through clothing items, a half pant, slippers, and a wristwatch found at the scene.
A joint team comprising the Central Investigation Bureau, Koshi Province Police Office, and Morang District Police Office conducted a thorough investigation, collecting detailed information and performing technical analysis at the crime scene.
Based on the findings, Padam Bahadur Adhikari was arrested and charged under homicide-related offenses.
The investigation into the heinous crime is ongoing.
