KATHMANDU: In a remarkable gesture of social responsibility, M.V. Dugar Group, a prominent industrial and business conglomerate with a legacy spanning over 150 years in Nepal, organized a nationwide blood donation campaign to mark the 80th birthday of its Chairman and distinguished industrialist, Mr. Motilal Dugad.
Under the campaign’s guiding motto, “A drop from you, a life for someone”, the group mobilized employees from its Auto Division and Hydro Division across the country.
The initiative was carried out at 16 key locations of the Hydro and Automobile divisions, stretching from Mechi in the east to Mahakali in the west, along with three of its dealer networks.
In total, 20 centers across all seven provinces of Nepal participated in the drive, supported by the Nepal Red Cross Society Blood Bank and CURA Health.
The campaign successfully collected 578 blood points from voluntary donors, which were safely and systematically handed over to the Nepal Red Cross Society.
Notably, the donated blood was immediately used to save three lives in Birgunj, Butwal, and Dhangadhi. The initiative saw enthusiastic participation not only from group employees but also from friends, neighbors, and members of the local community, reflecting widespread support and collaboration.
Speaking about the initiative, the group expressed that this small act of public welfare brings joy and satisfaction to Chairman Dugar’s heart and serves as an exemplary model of corporate social responsibility.
The group extended heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Dugar on reaching the milestone of 80 years and wished him continued good health, longevity, and sustained success.
Mr. Dugar is celebrated not only as a successful entrepreneur and businessman but also as a nature lover, social worker, religious, affable, and well-mannered personality.
A passionate writer and multifaceted personality, he is also a vigilant advocate of health, often emphasizing, “If you are healthy, you have everything; if you are not, everything else becomes meaningless.”
He is equally committed to environmental conservation, expressing deep concern over the global and local degradation of nature, especially the deteriorating environmental conditions in Kathmandu.
Guided by his vision, five years ago on his 75th birthday, the group launched a large-scale tree plantation program, investing its own resources to cultivate and preserve forests across the country.
Over the past five years, M.V. Dugar Group has planted over 100,000 saplings in Solukhumbu, Ramechhap, Dolakha, and other districts, across 42 branches of the Auto Division, including locations in Gauriganj, Sankhuwasabha (Khandbari and Tumlingtar), Biratnagar, Birgunj, Hetauda, Kathmandu, Butwal, Dang, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, and more.
The plantation initiative includes diverse species such as Timur, Rudraksha, Amla, Lapsi, Orange, Avocado, Lakuri, Pine, Siris, Kimbu, Walnut, Sal, Camphor, Mango, Amba, Dhupi, Bel, Jamun, Kathar, Sandalwood, Pomegranate, Neem, Lemon, Tejpatta, Bamboo, and various flowering plants.
Currently, approximately 65,000 of these saplings have matured. Following Mr. Dugar’s guidance, the group aims to cultivate and protect 500,000 trees over the next five years, with at least 100,000 new trees planned for planting this year alone, contributing significantly to Nepal’s environmental preservation efforts.
The M.V. Dugar Group has a vast business network spanning from Mechi in the east to Mahakali in the far west, with operations in automobiles, agriculture, hydropower, construction, as well as significant investments in banking, life and non-life insurance, and microinsurance companies.
In recent years, the group has generated 161 MW of electricity from hydropower plants in Solukhumbu and Ramechhap districts, supplying it to the national grid and exporting surplus power to India, generating foreign currency revenue for the Government of Nepal.
Additionally, the group is currently constructing a nearly 200 MW hydropower project in Dolakha district.
Through initiatives in healthcare, environmental conservation, and infrastructure development, M.V. Dugar Group continues to make substantial contributions to Nepal’s socio-economic development, guided by the vision and leadership of its esteemed chairman, Mr. Motilal Dugad.
