KATHMANDU: The second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) is heating up as Pokhara Avengers take on Lumbini Lions at the Tribhuvan International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, Kathmandu, on Saturday.

Lumbini captain Rohit Paudel won the toss and chose to field first, giving Pokhara the opportunity to bat.

The Lions have strengthened their squad by including Sri Lankan veteran Niroshan Dickwella, who replaces Thomas Drakes.

The 32-year-old Dickwella has represented Sri Lanka in 54 Tests, 55 ODIs, and 28 T20Is.

Pokhara Avengers have made two changes, bringing in Abhishek Tiwari and Matt Taylor in place of Aakash Chand and Dan Douthwaite. The side is led by Kushel Bhurtel.

Both teams are under pressure: Lumbini have won only one of their four matches, while Pokhara have one win in three outings.

Currently, both sides sit on two points, in sixth and seventh positions respectively, making this a crucial match for playoff hopes.

The clash will also mark the NPL farewell for Lumbini’s Gulbadin Naib and Pokhara’s Jimmy Neesham, who are set to participate in the UAE T20 league in Dubai.
