KATHMANDU: In the Monday session of the House of Representatives, Rajendra Lingden, the president of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), raised pointed questions about the current ruling parties, the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML.

He asked, “Did NC and UML come to power by singing hymns and playing the madasl (traditional Nepali drum)?”

Lingden’s remarks were made in response to the actions of both the ruling government and protesters during the royalist movement on March 28.

He accused the state, along with the protesters, of committing excesses during the unrest, questioning the government’s role in managing the situation.

“Did the parties in power, including Congress and UML, come to power without violence? Without destroying things or killing people?” Lingden continued, referencing the violence and destruction that occurred during the protests. He also criticized the government’s response, alleging that state forces used excessive force, including firing at protesters from rooftops.

He further demanded answers about the shooting of Sabin Maharjan during the protests, asking why he was shot while walking and why tear gas was deployed from rooftops. Lingden emphasized the need for a judicial commission to investigate the matter and hold those responsible accountable.

He called on the government to address these issues seriously, warning that those involved in violent actions should face legal consequences.
