KATHMANDU: Nepal Bar Association staged a lantern-lit protest outside the Supreme Court on Tuesday, accusing the court administration of obstructing judicial processes by refusing to register constitutionally significant writ petitions.

The lawyers’ body alleges that several important constitutional petitions have either been returned without registration or delayed for extended periods, effectively blocking access to justice.

Bar Association President Prof. Dr. Bijay Prasad Mishra said the judiciary must remain open and accessible to all, warning against practices that “stall or deny” the filing of cases. “We will continue to oppose any attempt to hinder the registration of cases in the court,” he said.

Protesting lawyers gathered at the Supreme Court premises holding lanterns and placards demanding “justice for all” and “transparent judicial procedures.” They argued that delays in registering writ petitions are undermining citizens’ right to seek constitutional remedy.

The Bar has also objected to recent parliamentary discussions on matters currently under judicial consideration, calling it an encroachment on judicial independence.

According to the association, the alleged obstruction in filing constitutional writs is directly affecting public access to justice and weakening trust in the judicial process.
