KP Khanal urges govt to resolve Ranisain border dispute quickly
Khanal drew the government’s attention to a recent incident of alleged misconduct involving a team led by Gopi Hamal in Lamapata of Himali Rural Municipality–3.
KATHMANDU: A Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), lawmaker KP Khanal, has called on the government to urgently resolve the long-standing boundary dispute in the Ranisain area, located along the border of Humla and Bajura districts.
Speaking during a session of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Khanal drew the government’s attention to a recent incident of alleged misconduct involving a team led by Gopi Hamal in Lamapata of Himali Rural Municipality–3.
He expressed concern over reports of growing illegal activities in the region, stating that the eastern base camp of Saipal and surrounding areas are rich in medicinal herbs and wildlife resources, which have reportedly been exploited through illegal trade and smuggling over the years.
Khanal alleged that attempts to establish a police post and promote tourism in the area were met with resistance from what he described as an unruly group, including reports of assault and detention of local representatives involved in the initiative.
Emphasizing the need for immediate state intervention, he urged the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Land Management, and security agencies to resolve the Ranisain border dispute without delay.
He also stressed that every citizen must be guaranteed security and the freedom to live without fear.
The lawmaker reiterated that the issue has become a growing concern for elected representatives engaged in local development and tourism promotion, calling for coordinated action from all relevant authorities.
