Koshi Province sets winter assembly for Feb 8

KATHMANDU: Koshi Province government has decided to recommend the province chief to convene the upcoming winter session of the Provincial Assembly on Magh 25 (Feb 8).

Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, Indramani Parajuli, said that since the Provincial Assembly’s own building and secretariat are under construction, the session will be held at Birendra Auditorium in Biratnagar on a temporary basis, with a monthly rent of Rs 800,000 for the venue.
Apart from scheduling the assembly, the Cabinet also took six other significant decisions related to the province’s development and legal framework.
Among them, the government approved the Koshi Province Planning Commission Formation and Operation Order 2082, revised by the Cabinet’s Law, Justice, and Provincial Affairs Committee.
The Cabinet also gave theoretical approval to draft the Koshi Province Legal Aid Bill, aiming to strengthen legal aid services within the province.
In development initiatives, the Cabinet approved tax exemptions on vehicles used in the Koshi Pump Chandranahr Irrigation Project, implemented under a bilateral agreement between Nepal and Japan.
To improve rural road networks, the provincial government will provide a 12.5% matching fund, complementing the federal government’s contribution of Rs 77 crore in capital and Rs 70 lakh in current funds.
Finally, to secure housing rights for marginalized citizens, the Cabinet approved the Koshi Janata Housing Procedure 2082, which includes standards for housing support.
