Khadka opposes Gurung’s reappointment as Home Minister
He accused the government of rewarding individuals facing serious allegations instead of holding them accountable, saying this contradicts its public commitment to good governance.
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Bharat Bahadur Khadka has strongly objected to the reappointment of Sudhan Gurung as Home Minister, citing alleged misconduct and unresolved investigations.
Speaking in Friday’s session of the House of Representatives, Khadka said Gurung—who has faced questions over property-related issues and was reportedly implicated in a Human Rights Commission report regarding incidents linked to the Gen Z movement—should not have been reinstated to such a sensitive post.
He accused the government of rewarding individuals facing serious allegations instead of holding them accountable, saying this contradicts its public commitment to good governance.
“The committee formed to investigate his property-related concerns is said to have cleared him, but the report was never made public.
Instead, he was reappointed as Home Minister,” Khadka said, adding that the government is promoting a culture of protection rather than accountability.
He also cited a Human Rights Commission report, claiming it had found Gurung responsible, and urged the government to end the practice of investigating and then promoting the same individuals.
Separately, Khadka reiterated his demand that Prime Minister Balen Shah’s remarks in Parliament be removed from the official record, intensifying ongoing political tensions in the House.
