KATHMANDU: The cold has intensified across the Kathmandu Valley, with the minimum temperature plunging to 3 degrees Celsius early Friday morning.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the initial reading taken at 5:45 am recorded the temperature at 3.0 degrees Celsius.

This is a preliminary figure, and officials say the official measurement taken at 8:45 am could fall even lower.

Although temperatures have appeared relatively stable over the past few days, the cold has been increasingly felt.

From Tuesday to Thursday, the minimum temperature remained at around 3 degrees Celsius.

On Thursday morning, the initial reading was 3.3 degrees Celsius, which later dropped to 3 degrees.

However, with Friday’s early reading already at 3 degrees, meteorologists warn that the valley could record its lowest temperature of the year.

Meanwhile, Jumla—considered one of the coldest places in the country—recorded a minimum temperature of minus 8.1 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
