KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP-N) Chair and former Home Minister Kamal Thapa has been taken into custody by police during a demonstration in Naxal-Narayanchaur.

According to Kathmandu Valley Police spokesperson Apilraj Bohara, Thapa was detained directly from the protest site.

Since Jestha 15, RPP, RPP-Nepal, and other pro-monarchy groups have been staging demonstrations demanding the reinstatement of the monarchy and a Hindu state.

Following the government’s decision to declare the Narayanhiti Palace Museum area a restricted zone starting Saturday, protesters shifted their rally to the Baluwatar area.

The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has enforced the restriction around the Narayanhiti area until Asar 24, prompting demonstrators to change their protest venue.
