KATHMANDU: Inter Miami lifted their first-ever MLS Cup on Saturday after a commanding 3–1 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps, with Lionel Messi providing two key assists.
Miami struck early as Vancouver defender Edier Ocampo deflected Tadeo Allende’s pass into his own net in the 8th minute.
Vancouver responded with sustained pressure and found the equalizer in the 60th minute through Ali Ahmed.
Goalkeeper Rocco Ríos Novo kept Miami in the contest with several crucial saves in the first half.
Messi narrowly missed a chance early in the second half, but he made his mark in the 71st minute, setting up Rodrigo De Paul, who fired in to restore Miami’s lead.
Deep into stoppage time, Messi delivered another precise pass, which Tadeo Allende converted to seal the 3–1 victory.
Miami co-owner David Beckham was in the stadium to witness the team’s historic triumph.
