Indian Foreign Secretary Misri in Kathmandu to finalize PM Oli’s India visit
During his visit, Misri is scheduled to hold high-level meetings, including courtesy calls on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba.
KATHMANDU: Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday to give final shape to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming visit to India and to formally hand over an invitation from his Indian counterpart, Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Misri landed at Tribhuvan International Airport earlier today aboard a special aircraft of the Indian Air Force.
He is visiting Nepal at the invitation of Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai for a two-day official stay.
During his visit, Misri is scheduled to hold high-level meetings, including courtesy calls on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba.
The primary purpose of his trip is to formally extend an official invitation to Prime Minister Oli on behalf of the Indian Prime Minister for a visit to New Delhi.
In addition, a bilateral meeting between the foreign secretaries of the two countries will be held.
Discussions are expected to focus on connectivity, development cooperation, mutual interests, and various aspects of the Nepal-India partnership, according to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Prime Minister Oli is preparing to visit India on Bhadra 31, though the official announcement of the trip is yet to be made.
Misri’s Kathmandu visit is seen as crucial in finalizing the date and agenda of the high-level visit. He is scheduled to return to New Delhi on Ashoj 1.
