KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has clarified that there was no prejudice involved in the recent arrest of Resham Chaudhary, patron of the Nagarik Unmukti Party.

Responding to concerns raised by lawmakers during Thursday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Minister Lekhak stated that the incident occurred due to the misconduct of a Supreme Court official.

He emphasized that the law was enforced with good intent, similar to previous instances where court directives were promptly executed by security agencies.

“There was no intention beyond the honest enforcement of the law,” he said. “Just as law enforcement has previously implemented Supreme Court directives without delay, the same principle was applied in this case.”

Minister Lekhak also noted that such incidents have raised awareness and highlighted the need for greater caution among all concerned in the future.

Addressing the controversy over the unauthorized correspondence that led to the arrest, he confirmed that Mahiman Singh Bista, a section officer at the Supreme Court, has been taken into custody by Kathmandu District Police. Bista is under investigation for allegedly issuing a forged letter, disseminating false information, and defying legal orders.

“The section officer who issued the unauthorized letter has been arrested, and an investigation is ongoing under charges including providing false information, contempt of court, and forgery,” the Minister informed the Parliament.

Expressing regret over the inconvenience caused to Resham Chaudhary and his family, Minister Lekhak offered an apology on behalf of the government.
